NEW MAIL SERVICE
TO START TO-MORROW HALF A DAY GAINED The new mail service between Gisborne and Napier will, commence to-morrow, though the first mail will not be carried until the following day in view of the New Year holiday. Under the new contract, secured by the Napier-Wairoa Freight Service, half a day will be gained at both ends, for in future all mails will he carried at night, the mail closing at 5.30 p.m. each day, while late fee letters will be cleared at 6 p.m. Until now, parcel mails have been taken south from Gisborne in the morning, and there has been a further letter mail closing at 12.30 p.m., but under the new arrangements all mails will be .carried at night, and Gisborne people thus will have an extra half-day in which to post letters, and almost a full day in the case of parcels. Letters and parcels will be delivered in Napier at the same time on the day following posting as under the present arrangement', and these conditions apply also at this end.
To-morrow will see the inauguration also of a dajlv mail service between Gisborne and Te Araroa. Up to the present mails have been carried between Ruatoria and Te Araroa only thrice weekly; frequently , the contractor has carried mails to.-Te Araroa on the oft' days, but the daily service will be commenced officially to-morrow. On Mondays and Fridays also mail will be carried right through to ITiqks Bay in the one day. , ./ .
