“JIX” SNUBBED
PREFERS EVENING AT HOME LONDON, Oct, 24. The powers that be in the Conservative Party have snubbed Lord Brentford, better known as the former Sir William Joynsoli-Hleks, Secretary for Home Affairs in the late Baldwin Cabinet—“Jix,” as ho was popularly known. When Mr. Stanley Baldwin last, week issued his statement accepting the Imperial preference offers, Lord Brentford simultaneously issued a statement, urging Mr. Baldwin to “tago his courage in both hands and include agriculture in his scheme.” Now an invitation to Lord Brentford to be chief guest at the annual dinner of the famous Carlton Club on November 4 has been cancelled without any specific reason. The original invitation was issued by Sir Stanley Mach in on September 26, and was cordially accepted by Lord Brentford. , On Monday, however, Sir Stanley wrote to Lord Brentford that the arrangement had been changed and the gathering would not take place just at ( piesent. j Lord Brentford replied with the unabashed remark that 11 while I
