CHEAPER BETTING

EXTENSION IN THE NORTH

The movement for cheaper betting facilities is spreading, and at least one other club in the Auckland province has decided to follow the lead of the Takapuna. Jockey Club in selling 5s totalisator tickets.

Tliis is the Northland Trotting Club, which will hold its annual meeting at Kensington Park, Whangarei, on January 29 (Anniversary Day), which is also the first day of the. Taka puna, summer meeting.

The Northland Trotting Club will bo the first trotting dub and the first country racing or trotting club to have a five shillings totalisator.

A number of other country dubs in Auckland province have considered the question oi' installing a 5s machine, but most of them have definitely decided against it, while others are waiting for a further trial. As far as the racing carnival in Auckland is Concerned, the totalisator arrangements at Ellerslie remain unchanged. One pound tickets will lie sold af the lawn enclosure and 15s tickets in other enclosures, with the usual pass facilities for lawn patrons desiring to make 10s investments. The Auckland Trotting Club, which has this season introduced the sale of 10s tickets in the lawn enclosure, in tends to extend the facilities at the coming meeting.
