Over 60,(XX) telegrams, the majority Christmas greetings, were handled by the staff at the chief post office in Auckland on Wednesday last. Although a fairly largo number of motorists from other districts have passed through Gisborne during the past few days, the amount of tourist traffic so far has not exceeded that of the corresponding days last, year. The experience of the garages and service stations, however, serves to indicate that the hulk of the touring motorists commence their holiday trips at and after New Year, and it is expected that the volume of traffic through Gisborne will increase considerably during the coming weeks. Tile camping sites at Waikanae Beach and at the Victoria Domain have been in demand since Christmas, and each day there has been a fair showing, of canvas at both places, the amenities of which have been greatly appreciated by visitors. There have been few accidents to date on the roads in and about Gisborne, and the breakdown outfits of the garages have not received many calls.
