Mr. K. YV. Dalrvmple, of liangitikei, is on his way hack to New Zealand after several months deer hunting in Alaska. Among Die changing customs is one in respect of Guy Fawke’s Day. A number of years ago it was usual for a few days before the celebration of the anniversary of the historic, attempted crime to see large numbers of bovs parading the streets in the guise of the notorious Guy, some of them particularly good representations. The invariable cry was, “A. penny for the guy.” Some of the youngsters reaped a good harvest, ami were therefore able to spend lavishly on fireworks. This practico has changed in Gisborne at least, and this year there has been a marked absence of this petty form of bogging.
