OBITUARY

MAJOR THOMSON (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) LONDON, Nov. 3. The death has occurred of Major Thomson, brother of the late Lord Thomson, late Secretary for Air. Major Thomson, who was 68 years of age, was seriously ill when the RlOl disaster occurred, and never rallied from the shock of his brother’s death. MR. S. S. WILLIAMS (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. The death has occurred of Mr. S. S. Williams at the age of 80 years. He arrived in New Zealand in the sailing ship Caroline in January, 1876, and foi a large number of years was a wellknown figure in the furnishing trade in Wellington. The late Mr. Williams had been in failing health for the last three years, and his death removes one of tho pioneers who has watched-and helped in the growth of the. city of Wellington. He was a man with a wide influence and a very large circle of acquaintances. His loss will be felt by many in addition to the family. lie was a member of the Wellington Bowling Club, and was a well-known Freemason. His wife predeceased him by a few months, and the following members of the family are left: Mrs; F. G. Billman (Feilding) ; Mrs. F. \V. Petherick (Wellington) ; Mrs. A. E. Newlands (North Sydney); and Messrs. E. S. Williams, Ai G. Williams, A. H. Williams, and L. N. Williams, of Wellington, all members of the. firm of S. S. Williams and Co., Ltd. . L t ■
