SECOND EDITION GUY FAWKES PROSPECTS

SMALL SALES ABSENT LAST YEAE’S STOCK Many a little chap will be merely an onlooker at to-morrow night's celebration of (lay Fawkes’ attempted misdeed, according to the manner in which sales are going in Gisborne. One of the large fireworks dealers in Gisborne told a reporter to-day that while the large parcels are selling! as well as in the past, he has missed the stream of youths who came to his shop with a, few pence to spend. Much of his sales were built up by the purchase of a few crackers at a time by the boys of the town, but this sort of trade was very small this year. The range of fireworks is not so great this year as in the past, ho said As a result of the stringent regulations the Government threatened to bring into force, no importations, with the exception of a few Chinese crackers, were made this year. Tim regulation made it incumbent on all dealers to be licensed, to sell fireworks, and for purchasers to secure a permit to set off the larger varieties, exempting the small crackers, squibs, sparklers, and colored matches. "Recently, however, this regulation was suspended in regard to stocks already in New Zealand, and the result was that the youth of to-day was dependant on last year’s left-over stocks with which to celebrate November 5.
