The Bishop of Goullmrn (N.S.W.) was married last week to Miss Enid White at a little twelfth-century parish church in Durham (England). Lieut.-Colonel R. (A Allen left Auckland by the Tofua on Saturday ou a visit to his brother, Colonel S. S. Allen. Administrator of Western Samoa.
Mr. J. B. Moodie, of Messrs. Dalgety and Co. Ltd., was at the annual meeting unanimously re-elected chairman of the Wellington Woolbrokers’ Association lor the third year in succession.
Mr. It. H. Smith, accountant at the Bank of New South Wales, Gisborne, has been advised of bis transfer to the Dunedin branch. Mr. Smith leaves Gisborne next week to take over his new duties.
Mr. Chas. It. Middlcipiss, of the staff' of the Atlantic Union Oil Co.. Hamilton, lias arrived in Gisborne to take charge of this district on behalf *>f his company. Mr. E. T. Melrose, who lias been stationed! in Gisborne for some time, returns to Hastings. Mr. J. Caughley, formerly Director of Education in New Zealand, and for the past three years Director of Education in Fiji, will he returning to New Zealand shortly, as his term expires m December. Mr. Caughley, as the head of a department, is a member of the Legislative Council in Fiji. Among the passengers who arrived at Melbourne from London by ILM.S. Oroides was Lady PaiT, wife of Sir James Parr, a former High Commissioner for New Zealand in London, and her two daughters. Sir J. Parr, who is attending the Imperial Conference in London, will return to New Zealand this year.
Many Gisborne people will be pleased to learn of the progress of the two sons of the Rev. Jus. and Mrs. Ait ken, who returned last week from a visit to Scotland. Dr. If. S. Ait ken is pow_ first assistant on the medical unit ot the London Hospital, while his brother, Mr. D. F. Ait ken, is on the stuff of the Princeton University, New Jersey, and visited tho United Kingdom to spend a month with his parents in the west Highlands.
Mr. ■ S. Edwards, who has been a member of the staff of the Gisborne office of Messrs. Nelsons (N.Z.) Ltd., for a number of years, has been transferred to the Auckland office of the firm, nod expects to leave Gisborne in about a week. In cricketing circles in Gisborne Mr. Edwards will' be greatly missed; ho was an energetic member of the management of the P.B. Cricket Association, und as acting secretary for several months proved himself a capable and efficient officer. At last evening’s meeting of the committee of the association a letter was received from Mr. Edwards tendering his resignation as a member, and the chairman, Mr. 11. E. Maude, and other members expressed their regret at his departure from the district, and wished Mr. Edwards all prosperity in his new sphere. Mr. .Edwards’ resignation was accepted with regret, ;tnd it was decided to forward to him a letter of appreciation of his past services. Mr. A. O. Woodfield was elected a member of the committee to fill the vacancy.
