CAPE TAX INCREASED CAPETOWN, Sept. 5. The Cape Provincial Council lias passed an ordinance increasing} the tax mi betting on overseas racing from 5 to 10 per cent. The tax is designed to make up (lie small decrease in revenue duo to the recent repeal of the tax on amateur spoil. It is estimated that the revenue do rived from English racing bets this year will ho £IO,OOO. The tax, which comes into operation immediately, is. expected, to divert a considerable proportion of betting from tbe-Cape to other provinces where the tax is still 5 per cent,.
