The c.al carbonisation plant to bo installed at Uolowaro for Ihe Waikato Carbonisation, Ltd.. syndicate, representing the four coal companies operating in the Waikato, arrived at Auckland by the Ruahine from Hamburg. The machinery weighs 1200 tons, and several nieces each of 7 tons will require special railway trucks for conveyance to the site of the works. A German engineer. August Finkbeincr, also arrived bv the liner to supervise" the. installation of the plant. The Lurgi process, which will he employed al the works, involves the extraction of light and heavy fuel oils, gas and other products from slack coal, of which abonl 150,000 tons are produced annually in tho Waikato, leaving a residue of high calorific value, which will be made into briquettes.
