A 1000 FT. CUNARDER
(Received April 16, 3 p m.) LONDON, April 15. it is announced that the new Cunard liner will lie 1000 ft. long at the, waterline. It is designed to have a speed ot 32 knots.
The projected new vessel will be the first, qver constructed to a length, ot 1000 ft-. The longest ships at present alloat are the German sister ships, the Bremen and Europa, which have a length of 938 ft., compared with the Majestic’s 915 ft. and the Leviathan’s 907 ft. ’The Majestic, however, has the largest tonnage of any ship alloat, being 56,621. The Leviathan is shown as having a tonnage of 59,957, but if measured according to British standards her tonnage would be only 54.282, or considerably less than the' Majestic. Tho new Europa is the fastest merchant vessel afloat, having exceeded a speed of 30 knots on her trials, and averaging 27.99 knots on her recordbreaking Atlantic crossing. The proposed new Cunard liner, with a speed of 32 knots, a length of ICOOft., and a tonnage of 65.000, will, therefore establish three records in the shipping world.
