N.S.W. WOOL CLIP
£12,790,000 DECREASE LOWER WEIGHT AND PRICES . SYDNEY, April 4. Although 3,000,000 more sheep were shorn during the present season than in the previous year, the value of the clip as in. Sydney has declined in value nearly 40 per cent. This year’s figure is given in a preliminary estimate by the Government statistician as approximately £18,310,000, whereas last year it amounted to £31,100,000. The decrease in value is partly due to the reduction in the weight of the clip to 412,073,0001 b. greasy wool, or 28,927,0001 b. (6.6 per cent.) less fnan In the previous season, but chiefly, of course, to the serious decline in prices. • The totals in some previous years Were £33,000,000 in 1927-28, £32,650,000 in 1926-27, and £25,980,000 in 1925-26. These are in each instance Exclusive of the value of wool derived from or exported on skins. The estimated average clip from the 53,334,000 sheep and lambs shorn or reserved for autumn shearing is 7.71 b. per head, or I.llb. per head below that of the previous year. Obviously the value of the clip now awaiting sale has had to be estimated; but it is not stated on what basis the statistician has made this calculation.
