Hoavv snowfalls on the ' Southern Alps and lighter falls over the foothills have brought chilly weather to Canterbury. Bain over most parts of Onntovhurv will help the growth ol winter feed in the pastures, which nr 1 ill recently were very parched through the prolonged snell of dry weather. The cold south-west wind which brought the rain on Saturday night also left a thick coating of snow on the Southern Alps and on the foothills almost, to their base. The Mount Herbert range of tho Port Hills also shared in the fail of snow.
