Charges of. bribery from a £200,000 fiind of a-company are made in a, peti-t-ioji which, has. been filed, with the Chicago Criminal Churl, asking for. possession of the account books of the comipaby- . The Assistant Public Prosecutor m : formed the court that he wishes to use the books in investigating the affairs of officials in charge of one of Chicago’s corporation departments. The petition declares that th,e president of the company withdrew £200,000 from its funds bv cheques payable, lo himself, and purchased valuable, gifts for public officials, including expensive si(ver service sets, jiieces of furniture, cinema cameras, ami indoor .golf sets. The company received considerable contracts from officials', some of which caused much criticism at the time. Arrests in the underworld continue, uninterruptedly. Those arrested yesterday included ’Sum and Peter Genua, notorious underworld characters, who were surprised in iiii office from which they directed an alcohol distributing syndicate.
There were.originally six Gonna brothers, who. gained notoriety in Chicago gangster wars as bootlegging overlords. Three were .assassinated, leaving Sam. Peter, and Jim, the last- of whom is the only one ..now at- liberty.
