NOT BRITISH!
RED VIEW OF AUSTRALIA PASSPORT COMEDY LONDON, April 3. A press representative learns that the Soviet, docs not regard the Australian as a British subject, and is determined to deal with the Dominions as entirely separate nations. An Australian, who is about to leave for Russia, produced an Australian passport at the Soviet Consulate for a visa. The Consul refused, saying: “You are not h British subject.” ~ ...... . “I am,” said the Australian showing the,-declaration on the passport - “No,” said the Consul, “you cannot, enter the Soviet Union unless you send your passport to Australia for a visa.” “Then I’ll get a British passport,” said the Australian. He produced a British passport and' returned with it to the Consulate and secured a visa. “What will happen'when you get to . Australia?” asked the Consul, implying that the Australian had changed his nationality. This is an interesting indication of the Soviet’s determination to ignore the existence of the' British Empire as a unit.
