GISBORNE AMATEUR CLUB HARRIER SEASON OPENS MAY 8 The executive of the Gisborne Amateur Athletic and Harrier Club met last evening. Air. W. Jenkins presiding. There were also present Alessrs. A. Swan. C. Sutcliffe, A. 11. Hart, 11. F. Forster, W. Campbell, A. 1). Hollis, R. Wildish, and F. Algie, lion, secretary. THE PROFESSIONAL CODE ROAD RACES NEXT WEEK A meeting of the executive of the Poverty Bay Athletic and Dancing Club was held last evening, there being a lull attendance of members. it was decided to commence the road lacing season on Tlitnsday, April 24, i with one event for senior competitors and one for junior members. The former race will stall from the intersection of Childers road and Disraeli street, and tile course will follow Childers road to Chalmers road, thence the main road [iast Makaraka to Alatawhero. On the return journey the cyclists will use Avvapuni road, turn into Stanley road, and tinish at the starting point. The junior race will commence from the same place, the competitors proceeding along Childers road to the main road, via Chalmers road, then hack to Stanley road and down Childers road to tho starting point. Nominations for both events close with .Messrs. 1!. Humphries and A. Sutton, at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22. The Highland dancing will not commence till next track season. Messrs. A. Sutton and T. (1. Lawless donated two cups for competition among members of the club. —The. secretary was instructed to forward letters thanking both donors. Mr. M. J. Kyne, president of the club, j expressed disappointment at the manner in which competitors were responding to the movement, and [jointed out that it was for their benefit that the club bad been revived. If the competitors were not going to help, lie said, the club would be unsuccessful.
