Chaff and Sheep Feed.
The practice of feeding oat sheaf chaff to ewes in the winter should bo much more pronounced this year, according to “Straggler” in the Christchurch Press. The assumption is justified that farmers are keeping their oats for winter feeding, and will not quit them even at the tempting prices offering for either oats or chaff. This assumption is further confirmed by the fact that very little oats is being offered to merchants, and that tho quantity in store is negligible. With the comparative failure of the turnip crop and tho general shortage of pasture the oat sheaf stack will be of untold henofit should tho wiuter bo a sovere one, which at the moment appears more than a possibility.
