An eight-roomed dwelling on Mr. W. D. liVsiiar’s Arowhana station was destroyed by fire on Saturday. At the tithe of tin; outbreak Mrs. C. Scott was the only pc son on the premises, and her attempts t.> extinguish the flames with a chemical extinguisher proved unsuccessful. The smoke attracted Mr. J. N Spehec, manager, and three shepherds to the scene, and further efforts were made'with a hose to control the fire, but the dames had gained a strong hold bv ..this time and the attempts were fruitless. Apart from a few articles, the who]© of the contents were burned, hut the men kept the fire from spreading to an Adjoining stable and store. The building was insured for £550 in the Southern Union office, and the contents were covered by a policy for £75 in Hie same office. It is understood Mr. l.ysriar •wiTJ be a heavy loser.
