ARTIST'S DEATH

INTEREST IN SPIRITUALISM RELATIVES IN NEW ZEALAND LONDON, April 11. William Atkinson, the visiting artist who was found dead at Marylebone, lived in York street, Marylebone, for some months. His landlady believed he was a clerk from Manchester, but he was known to have relatives in New Zealand. Atkinson always was very retiring, and his room door was always closed, though a light was visible until the early hours of the morning. Atkinson claimed that his work was inspired from the spirit world. Soon after he arrived he made friends in spiritualistic circles, and had conversations with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. According to the Daily Express, a hook dealing with psychic matters lay on his bedside table open at a verse describing a meeting with a spirit, some lines being heavily pencilled. It is believed that he had relatives in Auckland.
