GAMING ACT BREACH
SEQUEL TO" CARNIVAL (Por Press AsKOci.itior - DUNEDIN, this day. In the. Police Court to-day Christopher Conn was lined £3 for 'conducting a scheme in which money prizes were gained by mode of chance. The defendant was secretary of a committee which ran a St. Kilda beach carnival, with a .Scheme of selling tickets on which prizes were allotted. After issuing a jhirge number of tickets tho committee was refused a permit by the Internal Affairs Department, but it was too late to withdraw. Counsel pointed -out that Conn was merely a Scapegoat for the committee, and a conviction under the Gaming Act, had consequences mure serious than tho line imposed. The magistrate, Mr. 11. W. Bundle, said that could he obviated by a proper application, lie had no option but to convict.
