ENTHUSIASM REKINDLED LIQUIDATION OF* LIABILITIES Enthusiasm has been re-kindle 4 in the horticulturists oli Gisborne, and tho Poverty Buy Horticultural Society is to have another lease of life, according to the decision of tho members gathered at the adjourned annual meeting, resumed ■ onl Friday night. The old debts of the association are to bo liquidated, and all officers of the past year have placed their resignations before the members, so that any changes in the adminstration which are thought advisable cart be made without friction or handicap. The object of all those interested in the revival of the society's operations is to promote enthusiasm for their hobby, and to remove any obstacles or handicaps which have affected the association in the past. Mr. F. J. Rowley presided over Friday night's gathering, and there were about 16 enthusiasts present, Tho report submitted by the secretary, Mr. M. R, Fry, stated that one show had been hold since the last annual meeting, but owing to lack of support from either its own members or the general public, a substantial deficit bad beep shown,and in consequence it had been decided to suspend operations, with the object of realising the assets and clearing up the liabilities of the society. OFFER RECEIVED FOR PLANT. The chairman, commenting on this report, stated that an otter had been received lor tho plant of the society, but the acceptance of this otter would mean the loss of the plant to this district, as the offer had come from outside Gisborne It was felt keenly that once the assets were disposed of definitely, it would bo a long time before there would be any revival of the society, and some members of their body had combined to make a tentative offer to tho society to prevent such a state of affairs arising This otter, if accepted, would be confirmed if the authors wore satisfied with the response to an appeal for greater membership and increased enthusiasm, and in order to facilitate the promotion of increased interest, the officers at present acting for the society would bo prepared to resign in a body, and leave the way clear for the selection of a new executive. Some further information as to the otter of the group of members referred to bv Mr Rowley was submitted by Mr. (». T. Maunder, who initiated a lengthy discussion in which several angles were taken up. Messrs. ('.. VI Barton and A. Thomson' being among tho speakers who put the position from the point of view of tho old executive Tf was resolved eventually that the resignations of the old executive and officials of the society be accepted, and that Messrs. F. J. Rowley and M. R. I'ry be appointed temporarily .to clear tip the liabilities, and submit a purged balance sheet to on extraordinary general meeting to be hold in a month. Mr. Maunder signified his intention of placing in the hands of two ot the officers an amount which, with the small credit balance, remaining in (lie society's account, would suffice to limiidate the debts at nrosent owing, and amounting to about £4O.
