AUCKLAND AIR PAGEANT 20 PLANES TAKE PART (I'er Press Association. 1 ALCrvLAND, last night. ' I A second aerial pageant conducted by 'the Auckland Aero Ciuo was held at Ainngere aerodrome on Saturday. Tim weather was tine but a strong wind did not make for the best ot Hying conditions. Over 20 machines, including several types not previously seen in A.tCKlaud, thrilled spectators with raving events, stunting, bomb dropping and landing events. During the afternoon, the lit. Hon. * J, (5. Coates, With Whig Commander Grant Dalton, look the air in a DH 50 machine. Mr. F, C. Chichester received a warm I welcome. He Hew specially to Auckland for the pageant. The aerial deby was won by Captain .McGregor. Owing to the high' wind. Wing Commander Grant Dafton refused permission for a parachute descent. There were no accidents, but a forced landing on a mud Hat was made by Cap tain M. Buckley during the New Zealand Acriit Derby. He was Hying low over the mudflats, when his motor slopped, but ho managed to turn the machine into tlio wind and made a good landing. The machine was still rolling when the wheels struck the soft spot and the 'piano heeled over on to its nose. No damage was caused, and after a blocked jet which had caused the trouble had been cleared Captain Buckley flew the machine back to the aerodrome. Inter-club challenge race (for New Zealand Herald trophy) : Hawke's Bay and East Coast (D. 11. Newhcgin) 1, Marlborough (Miss P. Bennett) 2, Canterbury (D. K. Grigg) 3, Auckland (G. M. Firth) 4. This event was one of tho best of the day. The Canterbury machine wobbled badly at the start but straightened out and got away with the others. Firth, who was on the outside, did not get a good start, and was be- ' hind throughout the whole race. Miss j Bennett was ahead after one lap of the course, but Newbegin overtook her the second time round and won by a narrow I margin. I New Zealand Aerial Derby.—-First j heat: Captain M. Buckley (Air Force) 1, Lieut. lan Keith (New Plymouth) 2. | Second heat : Captain M. C McGregor ! (Hamilton) 1, Major 0. A. C. Cowper .(Hamilton) 2, Third heat: Captain .1. : Sea brook (Auckland) 1; Mr. D. Mill ' (Uohsonville) 2. Fourth heat : Captain W. S. R. Bloomfield (Auckland) 1. Capt. Stoman (Wellington) 2. Final: Captain McGregor 1, Cantain Bloomfield ?., Captain Seahrook 3. McGregor took the lead at the first bend and gained 200yds on the others. He won by that amount and Seahrook finished a similar distant 1 * behind Bloomfield. Landing competitions. "A" licence pilots:-Mr. F. R. Dix (Marlborough) 1. Mr. D. IT. Newbegin 2.
