WATERSIDE LABOR
AUSTRALIAN DISPUTE GOVERNMENT INTERVENES (Received April 12, 11 a.m.) AIELLO URN E, April 12. Shipowners view with concern the Federal Government’s intervention on behalf of the Waterside Workers’ Federation, whereby it is intended to specify by regulation the common picking-up places for vessels at the ports of Melbourne and Adelaide.
The shipowners point out that volunteer workers object to having to come into close contact with former strikers under conditions which expose them to undue risks, and while the owners are prepared to obey the law they are determined to fulfil the promise to volunteers, giving them preference in employment.
