AUSTRALIANS ABROAD
FINANCING TRIPS LONDON, March 30. It is the Egyptians who do the spoiling at Port Said now, The latest passengers from Australia report an increase in the business of the moneychangers, who are offering only 18s cash for Australian £1 notes which they promptly sell to Australia-bound passengers on other ships for full, value. It is understood that the London banks are strictly rationing the amount which their wealthier clients may spend to £4O a week maximum, but most of them are content with £2O. The travel agencies are feeling the pinch heaviest. One of them has arranged to accept all payments in Australia, their clients bringing over receipts, which are sufficient to receive tickets here. The agency, however, cannot go on indefinitely finding its own funds to pay for the railway and steamship tickets of others while unable to receive drafts from Australia. 1 Another agency changes notes for 18s 6d as a special favor to valued clients. Passengers are now learning not to bring notes.
