RUGBY FOOTBALL
THE PIRATES CLUB ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Pirates Rugby Football Club was held in the Kaitaratahi Hull on Thursday evening, Mr. G. Caulton presiding. Keen interest was taken in the proceedings, and the meeting telt that Rugby would boom in that district during the forthcoming season. The annual report and balance-sheet were adopted, the latter showing a satislactory financial position. Mr. J. Fitzgerald, the lion, secretary and treasurer, was warmly congratulated on the able manner in which he had prepared the' report and financial statement. Officers were appointed as follow : Ration, Mr. G. Clarke; president, Mr. G. Caulton; vice-presidents, Messrs. ,T. iTall, V. S. Bolton, J. Fitzpatrick, O. Brotvn, B. Aislabie, H. Airey, J. Munro, 11. Hannah, W. Greggan, It. Johnston, 11. Mclxmglilin, F. K. Wilson, W. Wilson, J. J. Box, A. MePhail, li. Stevenson, 11. Stewart, and F. Tolerton; lion, secretary and treasurer, Mr. .1. Fitzgerald; committee, Messrs. G. Caulton (chairman). 1L Cooper, F. MeAnenv, R. Wilkinson, J. Ryan, D. Beattie, W. O’Donnell, J. Lucas and It. Williamson; selector and supervisor, Mr. R, Cooper. To attend to (he social affairs of Hie club, a strong committee was elected, while the chairman and secretary were authorised to make the necessary arrangements with regard to practice matches and friendly games with other clubs. It was decided to co-operate with the Hamers Rugby Football Club in the matter of a delegate to the Poverty Bay I'ughv Union. Mr. A. Ingram, sen., being the Harrier Club’s delegate, was apcoiuted the Pirates Club’s representative also. The secretary reported that Mr. -T. T liras bad donated a cup, which would be known as the “Ixmdon Cuip." and will be competed for among junior teams of country clubs. Tn making the donation. Mi*. Lucas said bis object was to encourage Rimby in the country districts. esnecinllv with junior teams. After some discussion, it- was agreed to form a third grade team. A donation of a new football was vo-eei'-ed from the Kaitaratahi Snorts Club. . and the secretary was instructed to fnr"•sv'l a letter expressing the club's thanks.
