MOTOR REGULATIONS
DISCUSSION BY UNION AMENDMENTS proposed (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. There was a good attendance of delegates at the half-yearly meeting of tho North Island Motor Union to-day, Mr. W. O’Callaghan, Smith Taranaki, presiding. Mr. A. J. Toogood (Wellington) moved: ‘That the Public Works Department should secure legislation whereby they and local bodies would have power to compel private property owners to remove any obstructions in addition to growth that obscures the view of motorists at road corners.” “The principle is a. very wrong one,” said Mr. 11. W. Short, in submitting the following remit: “That the North Island (N.Z.) Motor Union protest to the Minister of Transport against local bodies remunerating traffic inspectors employed by them on a commission basis from the lines secured by such traffic inspectors from motorists for offences Under the motor regulations or local by-laws.’’ The. remit was carried. ' “That a recommendation he made to the proper authorities I hat it be made compulsory for local authorities to put down white lines indicating where cars can he parked parallel or otherwise to the foot path. Carried. “That the North Island (X.Z.) Motor Union endeavor to put into force a universal sign to stop in cases of urgency in tlie case of a motorist travelling immediately ahead, and, if thought necessary, to apply to tlie Commissioner nf Transport io have same embodied in tho motor regulations.”—Carried.
The union decided in favor of a remit that all speed limits be abolished and that driving to tlie common danger be substituted therefor.
