ALLEGED SWINDLE
EX-NUN IMPLICATED PARIS, March 1. A singular case of swindling, in which Mine. Victoria Renaudet, the supposed proprietress of a chateau worth several million francs, and Josephine Arenaudeau. a former nun. are implicated, will come before the Correctional Court at. Angers to-morrow. When Mile. Arenaudeau was Sister Klisa she made the acipiaintanco of the "Chatelaine," who begged her assistance because there was a claim to her property. Sister Klisa was ordered by her Superior to make collections in aid of the community, and Mine. Renaudet suggested that the, proceeds should be handed over to her. adding that when she won her action she would sell her chateau and build a magnificent chapel for the nuns. The Cure of Becon-les-Granits, an octogenarian priest, who had been promised a school, entered into the combination and collected £BOO. These sums were banded over to the Chatelaine.
It is alleged that the chateau only existed in" the imagination of Mine. Renaudet, and when the truth came out the superior of the convent was so much upset that she died. Relieved of her vow. Sister Klisa, who began as a dupe, ended as an accomplice of the alleged swindle, and continued to make collections in the South. Brittany, and Normandy. Alter 1.000.000 francs (£8CO0) bad been collet ted, the two women have been arrested in Paris.
