The opening of this road has brought the East Coast much nearer Auckland. Mr. Mortensen, who left Wairoa. at 3 o’clock on Saturday afternoon, reached Auckland at 2 p.m. on Sunday, after what ho described as “particularly easy travelling.” The first trip to the lake by car from Rotorua was made about a month ago by Mr. H. E. Champtaloup. touring manager'of the Auckland Auto mobii,'- Association, but at that time the road to Lake House bad not been quite finished and was not passable. In commenting upon the trip at that time Mr. Champlalonp said the scenery was some of the best and most varied he had seen in the North Island, and the route was hound to become very popular. At present it should not be attempted by any but the - most experienced of motorists carrying full equipment to combat service conditions. As there were many long stretches miles away from any assistance the association issues a warning against the indiscriminate immediate use of the road.— Auckland Herald.
