The 90th birthday of a pioneer of Pakuranga,' 1 Mr. John Udy, of Underwood House, Pakuranga, was commemorated on Monday. The occasion was marked bv a gathering of the family and friends. Mr. Udy is ithe oldest resident of the district. He still enjoys good health, although for some time ho lias given up active work. Admiral of the Fleet Earl Jell too,e, has returned from the Riviera, whither he went to recuperate after .his operation, writes a London correspondent. He lips joined Lady Jellicoe at their ,new borne in Princes Gardens’. Lady .Jellicoe, arid Lady Norali Jellicoe, have (beep, on a six weeks’ cruise to the West Indies. , Notice of his transfer to Auckland has been received bv My. R. W. Cunirning, chief clerk receiver of land revenue in tlio Lands and Survey Department at Gisborne, t He will be replaced by My. A. C. R. Anderson, now senior clerk at, Dunedin. Mr. Cumniing will be greatly missed in cricket circles in Poverty Bay, his capabilities as secretary of the _ association being highly .valued, while he lms made many friends in various busi ness and social circles here. Mr. C. J. M. Hunter, of Cambridge, Waikato, a young New Zealand engineer, arrived at Auckland by the Niagara. He has secured an important position abroad. Mr. Hunter obtained his B. Id. degree at Canterbury College, after which he was on the engineering stall' engaged on the construction of the tluia dam. Following the completion of that work, Mr. Hunter went to England and recently obtained a position with the Government hydro-electrical department in Colombo, Ceylon. Altliough only 26 years of age, he has been appointed deputy-chief engineer of the largest works being undertaken there. During his visit, (o New Zealand Mr. Hunter will inspect the main hydroelectric works in the country and prepare a report on them for his Government.
