PEOPLE LOCKED OUT PETITION 1° REMOVE VICAR RAW TEX STALL, Lancashire, Dec. 15. The dispute between the Rev 1. Caleb, of jSt. Michael's Church, Lumb-in-Kossendalc, near here, and ms congregation, which has lasted nearly tinea months, reached a further stage to-day. The trouble arose over his dismissal of the choir after they had protested, against his cancelling an anthem at the harvest festival service. Only a few persons attended this morning s service, and most of them walked opt in the middle of the service —a protest, that Juts been practised since the dispute began. About 300 people gathered at the church in the evening, hut- tound the doors locked- .On the main entrance was posted the following notice:— From this Sunday there will lie no Evensong.—T. Caleb, Vicar. A meeting was held outside the church and a deputation was sent to the vicar, who' was seen looking from his study window. When asked tor a reason lor his action, lie said that if there were any disturbances next Sunday, the church would probably be dosed all dav.

A propo.sa.l was made to hold a service in the churchyard, hut on the advice of the police the. people held a short one a little, distance away.

An extensively signed petition asking for tin* removal of the vicar was torwarded to the Bishop of Manchester on Saturday.
