NEW ZEALAND FLAG RETURNED TO GOVERNMENT (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON. Inst night. To be preserved as one of New Zealand's cherished possessions, a. .Dominion Hag, carried hy Rear-Admiral Byrd on his flight over the South Bole, was returned to tile Government hy the explorer at tin* Ministerial luncheon accorded him to-day. “We carried with us across the South Bole the flag of New Zealand and 1 now wish to return it' to the Government,’' said Admiral Byrd, in quietly .handing the ensign to tli.o deputy-Leader of the Government, the Hon. G. \\. Forties. “This other flag 1 \vi.ll take .ho.ipe with me and .pit'sent it to the United States Government." (Applause). file combination of .the American and New Zealand (lags in the table ylecdra tion scheme was noted by the admiral. “I ; hit\e been looking.” he said- "at the two flags together on the tables—ours and yours. That .is how t.liey should he. (Applause). I hope they always will bo 'like that and T .have no doubt in the world that they will he so. T take this opportunity of hear,til v reciprocating the sentiments ot goodwill whioh have been ex pressed • In .reply, Mr. Forbes said the Government. was highly honored in receiving the flag from the hands of Admiral Byrd. It would ire treasured as the memento of an .historic event. Ihe Minititer asked the Admiral, on his return to America, .to act as an unofficial ambassador for New Zealand and to convoy .to the President, and thy people of the I Ini led States the Dominion’s .best wishes for their Future prosperity.
