RACING
NOTES FROM THE SOUTH (Special to the Herald.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Leader has shown signs of soreness lately, and he has not done a great deal of work during the last few weeks. He figures as an acceptor for the Great Eastern Handicap, but it is far from certain that he will be a starter, even if lie trains on well, as some of the minor events may suit him better. Master Clarence is out of commission at .present. Ho went sore recently, and though lie became quite sound again after n short rest, it was decided to give him a spell for a few weeks . F. P, Cl a ridge will take him in hand again shortly, and will prepare him for winter racing. Master Clarence has been a very solid performer during) the last few months, and is likely to show further improvement later in the year. The two-year-old filly Praise has no engagements at the Canterbury Jockey Club’s autumn meeting, and it is not intended to race her again this season. There is nothing amiss with her, hut she is growing, and it has been deemed advisable to give her time to mature. She should make a great sprinter next season.
