WAR ON POTATO PEST

PARIS, Feb. 8. At the present moment a dospcrato fight is being waged in no fewer than 14 Departments of France against, an invader, a relic of the Great War. There arrived with the American troops another fighter, who was not wauled—the Colorado beetle. This destructive insect first made its presence felt in the Bordeaux district. It multiplied so much that in a short while the potato fields in the valley of the Garonne in the South and the Limousin in the North suffered considerably. It was found that the beetle was a slow but sine traveller and a tireless worker. With its large and destructive jaws it could devastate a potato field in a few days. It was always on the bound, making jumps of two miles a year. >• -r
