GANGLAND FEUD
EX-CONVICT AND WOMAN SHOT NEW YORK, Feb. 16, Dreamland, a popular dancing ball in the Bronx district of New York, was tho scene early to-day of a double murder, the perpetrators of which escaped without a trace. When the dancing stopped at 2 a.m., Miss May Smith, one of the hostesses. a handsome 24-year-old blonde, left with her .sweetheart, Carmel Barelli. 28. Laughing gaily, they strolled towards a. neighboring garage, whore I hey had left their motor car. Another ear" drew up alongside and four men, flourishing revolvers, got out. Tho lovers, screaming with terror, (led in opposite directions. The girl tripped, fell, and was immediately riddled with bullets. The other two iix-ii pursued Barelli and killed him with two shots. Uarelli was a ticket-of-leave man who had served time for numerous robberies. An act of vengeance in an underworld quarrel is the only explanation offered for the double murder.
