WELCOME TO BYRD
WELLINGTON RECEPTION EXPLORER LAUDS PIONEERS (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. An enlhusiastk civic reception w;iS given Admiral Byrd last night in the Town Hall hy a large crowd of citizens. Addresses were given bv die Minister of Labor, the Hon! W. A. Veiteh. on hehalf of the Government : Dr. L. Mais den. Director of Scieutilie and Industrial Research: and the Mayor, .Mr. G. A. Troup, all of whom eulogised the work of the expedition in adding to expiora tiny and scieutilie knowledge and lauded the accomplishments personally of Admiral Byrd and his associates. In his reply. Admiral Byrd paid a warm tribute to the assistance given the expedition by the New Zealand Government and said his nun people could not- have shown more interest in the venture than had the New Zealand people. The expedition had added only a hide to what had been accomplished at the Hole by British explorers, who had been the real pioneers and pathfinders. A presentai ion of a kiwi mounted on greenstone and native wood was made to Admiral livid.
