Although the annual Poppy Day appeal lias the general support of town and country residents, many people who do not conic into the business area oil the day of the appeal find themselves without the opportunity of subscribing. In order to overcome this difficulty, a list has been opened at the Herald office ioi the acknowledgement of donations made to the funds in advance ol the genera! public appeal. There was a decrease of £622 in the revenue collected oil the Gisborne section of tho railwavs during the four-weekly period ended‘March 1, 1930, compared with the corresponding period last year, ihe total earnings for the month being £2684. Tim decrease in the revenue was made up chiefly bv £264 less foe passengers and £352 less for goods, while tho parcels returns showed an increase of £lO. The expenditure for the. period totalled £3187, as against £3155 last year. The traffic returns for the four weeks ended March 1. 19,A), with the figures for the corresponding mouth in 1929 given in parentheses, were: Passengers, 3245 (5925) : stock, 18,539 bead (21,647); goods, 4525 tons (5854).
