Admiral Byrd arrived at Wellington to-day and was given a civic reception. - R. A. An amusing story comes from one ol the country townships concerning last Friday’s earthquake. The major shaky was preceded by a slight tremor of some seconds’ duration, and a teacher, a. recent arrival from a- distant part, bad just time to reassure the children that it- was nothing to he afraid about, and was nothing to what was experienced where he canto from. Just as he uttered those words, the tremor increased in velocity to the amusement of the class. Equal to the occasion, the teacher remarked-: “Ah, that’s more like what wo get in —• —. Perhaps you had all better go outside.”
