Renewed confidence after their match with the Napier High School eleven enabled the Gisborne students to emerge ttio winners in their game with Civil Service. When stumps were drawn on, the first day High School were in a safe position, # having gained a substantial lead, and little fear was entertained regarding their success. The innings closed for 279, L. Thomson (58), Bopkinson (48), Greaves (46), Foote (41), Mace (27), and Carson (25) being the chief contributors. Apart from Bignall (26), Powell (26), Simpson (20), Connan (13), and McKinley (10), the opposition bats men were dismissed cheaply, the score totalling 116.
