A PROPOSAL REJECTED
An idea mooted at New Plymouth that an economic farm production com petition 1)6 inaugurated m South Taranaki to stimulate production and lead to the employment of the best farming methods was scouted by the Farmers Union at Hawera after a deputation front the Chamber of Commerce placed the matter before the farmers. Tfie secretary of the Fanners’ Unkyi sent out a circular letter to 750 members and only 60 replied. The matter was fully discussed, Mr. d Robertson declaring that tlie duplicity of a number of farmers would result in inaccurate returns being sent in. Ho alleged that in herd-testing quotes “the shady tricks practised were inconceivable.” He re fen-fecl to the old Army saying, “For the sako of one or two blighters the whole battalion would be punished.” “It. does not say much for Hie farthers,” said Mr. W. E. Carter, “but f am of the same opinion.”
