P.B. KENNEL CLUB

INITIAL RIBBON PARADE FUNCTION CONCLUDED For an initial effort, tho ribbon parado of tho Poverty Hay Kennel Club, held on Saturday afternoon at Air. A. Slapp’s residence, Kaiti, must bo counted as highly successful. Ibe committee bad made its arrangements in the expectation of having fairly small entries in all classes, in view of lie' fact that this was tho first function of the, kind attempted in Gisborne, and some adjustments in the preparations bad to be made at the last minutes, in consequence of the entries being much larger than had been anticipated. The officials met tlie occasion very well, and to exhibitors and to the general public showed a degree of courtesy that more than made up for any shortcomings in the organisation. The judges were faced with difficult tasks, and they too covered their duties in a very capable manner, their decisions being accorded general endorsement.

One of the principal difficulties facing Hie judges was the selection of the champion dog of tho show, as the entries ranged from the smallest of toy dogs lo the. pugnacious looking bulldogs, on tbe one band, and from the utility gundogs to the. Alsatians on tho other. The problem was satisfactorily solved in the long! run, however, and those exhibitors who did not entirely agree with the decision conceded readily that under tho circumstances tho judges made a very good job of their deliberations. Certainly they did not offer any hasty award, the choice of tho champion being made after nearly a quarter of an hour’s deliberation by the four judges upon the points of half a. dozen of the prize winners dealt with earlier in Hie afternoon.
