The annual district high school excursion to Waikokopu and Opoutama by train was held yesterday. The weather was ideal for such an outing, and a large number of school children and many parents journeyed eastwards in a Public Works Department train. The total train fares, at low rales and liberal reductions for families, was £22 |.os, and as the expenses will probably not exceed £l2. After reaching the journey's end, many peopl" visited the breakwater, and viewed the operation of tipping the large blocks of stone into lie/ structure. Others viewed the railway works and then went on to Opoutama, where bathing was indulged in under ideal conditions. There was no set pro gramme of sports, but the youngi people were supplied with sweets and fruit. Perry's residence, Queen street. The station is officially known as 2ZP, and is owned and operated on a wave-length of 305.6 metres. The Mayor, Mr. It. T. Esther. is to officially open the station, and the rest of the afternoon will bo taken up by broadcasting work.
