PASTURE TOP-DRESSING
"PEDIGREE" GRASSES The collection of information relative to areas topdressed is a comparative innovation, the first collection being made in 1927. The increased areas returned as topdressed over the three years is very significant. The figures are as follow: — Tons Manure.
One of the outstanding results of work at the plant brooding station at I'almerston .North during the present season lias been the remarkable reMilts obtained from topdressing paslures composed of pure strains of grasses, compared with the samo treatment given to ordinary mixed pasture. It is quite apparent that to obtain maximum results from topdressing it is essential that fertilisers be applied to ".pqdigrco" grasses, as they, in common with other pedigree stock, are capable of giving maximum results for money expended. During the past few years, said the Minister of Agriculture, outstanding investigational work has been done by the Agiicultural Department's agrostology section on our grass lands—representing Xew Zealand's most important crop. This work has had a very strong practical side and appeal, and has been of great value to farmers.
