WOMEN AS JUDGES
AVomen magistrates may sit in the French courts before long if the I'ill now being drafted by M. Onthala, ,member of the Chamber of Deputies, is passed. Frenchwomen for the last; twenty-live years have been attracted to the study of law, one of the few professional careers open to them. There are now in Paris alone 220 women lawyers, most of whom belong to an association which has put .forward tin! suggestion that women should preside over the juvoidle courts. AL Onthala’s bill, however, claims that the whole magistracy shall be open to women.
