THIRD EDITION J'S.P. ASSOCIATION

ANNTJAJ. BEKORT The: annual report of the Gisborne " 'Justices o.f : .the Peace Association for the year ended December 31, to lie presented to the annual meeting oil’Wednesday, is'as follows: “We began the year with a membership of 17 and added nine new members during the year. This is somewhat disappointing' ih yiew of thee fact th.it between 30 arid 40 justices attended the . inaugural meeting called'at the instance of:Mr. A. J. Stratford, a visiting justice and an executive officer 6l the Auckland Justice of the Peace Association. At that meeting it was resolved that those present form themselves into . a Justices o S the Peace Association, and | this organisation chine into existence. The fact 'remains, however, that a number of those preseht' failed to join the association. It is io be hoped that during the incoming year,' however, the enrollment of the whole of the justices in the district will be accomplished. In addition to this, the incoming executive is recommended to call a meeting of . the justices ofth’o Wairoa district’at an early date, with tho object of forming a branch of our association in that town, . and thus prdvide, if possible, a further extension of the association’s usefulness. “Your association was represented at the antiual conference of the federation by its president, Mr. W- Lissdnt Clay.ton, and shortly after his return to Gis- * 'borne a general meeting of members was called, at which the delegate gave a very full and interesting account of the various remits that were discussed at ’ the conference. It is very pleasing to note that when a summary of the recommendations' of the' conference was subsequently presented by a deputation from the federation to the tyon. Minister of Justice, he was very favorably impressed with the usefulness of a number ol suggested amendments to divers statutory laws coming within the ad- ■ ajyjisiratine*'"jfunctidn of justices of the and he promised to give them his favorable, consideration. ' “The next'afiniial Conference will be held at Tiinaru in March, 1930. It is to be hoped this association again will he represented. There 1? little doubt that the combined effect of the federations consensus of opinion, gleaned frorfrt. its representatives from all parts of the Dominion, will have an undoubted influence with the Government and the public, in respect to establishing morf useful and administrations of the judicature 'by the members of the commission oB peace “I regret to record the loss by deatn of Mr. Hill, wbo was a member of the Auckland Justice of the Peace Association, and who intended to transfer to our association. A letter expressing oqf deepest sympathy was sent to the bereaved/^^
