TOLAGA BAY TOURNEY SMITH WINS FINAL (Herald Correspondent.) Tlu' Tolaga Hay howling tournament was concluded in fine weather, great interest being taken in the later stages of the section play and the final game. The tournament final was won by Smith's rink, a local quartet, which scored live wins in the section play, two of them by the, narrowest of margins, and then went on to win the final easily from Craig's Gisborne rink, which also was beaten only once in the .section play. Jn the final game, between the rinks skipped by Smith and Ctfaig, the former won by 26 to 7, securing a good lead early, and having the advantage 11—7 on the 10th head. Smith then scored on six consecutive heads, and after the 16th, he led 20—7. His opponent then registered a two, but Smith came to light again and scored a four and a '.wo in succession, making the score 26—9 on the 19th. His opponent retired at this stage. The winning rink had a remarkable record in the tournament, for on two occasions it had escaped defeat by wonderful recoveries. In the fifth round, against Morse, Smith was eight points down with four heads to go, and seven down with only three to play. _ lie secured a six and a single, thus wiping out, his deficit, and then went\ on to win the final head with a three.
