HOSIERY TRADE
AUSTRALIAN TARIFF RESENTMENT IN BRITAIN /Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) LONDON, Jan. 30. The Hosiery Join! Industrial Council passed a motion expressing surprise end resentment at the vindictive treatment which the Australian tariff accorded, to British knitwear, the duties ranging from 150 per cent, to 6CO per cent., which is tantamount, to prohibition against, importation. Therefore, the suggestion that valuable preferences are still offered are unwarranted. The council adds that the British industry s claims for consideration as nil important customer for Australian raw materials and products has been ruthlessly ignored. Therefore, if is only natural that the trade should, in its own interests, seek to obtain its requirements .from sources where the value of reciprocity is more highly appreciated than in the Commonwealth.
