MR, ALTRED BATES (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) LONDON. Dec. 30. The death lias occurred of Mr. Alfred Bates, art metal worker, and inventor of,tho steel helmet which the British troops wore in war-time. MRS. HENRY ALLPORT (Per Press Association,) AUCKLAND, .last' night. Mrs, Henry - Allport, nn old resident, died at Auckland to-days within a. fortnight of completing her eighty-seventh year. She was the daughter.of Mr. Isaac Smith, one of the special (constables who fell in the Wair.au massacro in June, 1843. Her parents were • among • the icarly: Nelson settlers. Her husband died 10 years ago. Mrs. Allport leaves three generations of descendants, totalling 86 |
