CAVE EXPLORATION

. CRADLE OF HUMAN RACE ? . LONDON, Nov. 1. Mr. A. Leslie Armstrong, a Derbyshire cave explorer, who has just returned to England after examining paintings and stone implements in a cave at ■Bambata in the heart of the Matopos, believes that they establish a definite link between the prehistoric inhabitants of .South Africa and those of Europe. In his opinion the older paintings are the work of the same palaeolithic race that painted bison and other animals on the walls of caves in Spain. Implements closely resembling some at the bottom of the Bambata cave were found by Mr. Armstrong at the Victoria Falls. His investigations there convinced him that man was living on the banks of the Zambesi, while the river successively excavated and left dry five different gorges. "Personally," said Mr. Armstrong, "I am quite satisfied that Af.rica is the cradle of the human race."
