DEPARTURES Monday, December 30 Pukeko, s.s.' (4.20 p.m.), 912 tons, Jinnies, for Napier. The Wingatui, with southern cargo, left Wellington at 6 p.m. yesterday for Napier. She is due here on Friday or Saturday next to discharge. The New Zealand Shipping Co.'s liner Ruahine is due at Tokomaru Bay on Thursday morning to load frozen meat and general cargo for London. The Pakura loads at Wellington on Monday and Tuesday next for Napier and (iishorno. The Parera is expected to leave Wellington to-night with rails for Gisborne. She is due here at the ,end of this week. The Pukeko sailed yesterday afternoon for Napier, on rotrtc to Auckland. The motor ship Margaret W leaves Auckland this afternoon with general cargo for Gisborue. The vessel should arrive here on Thursday morning, and feail again on Thursday night on the [return trip north, calling at Coast hays en route.

The Tiroa and motor ship Karoro will bo dispatched to-morrow for Tokomaru Bay to lighter the Ruahine, which will load frozen produce there for London.

On the homeward passage of her second voyage, the New Zealand Shipping Co.'s motor liner Rangitiki made a fast run of 18 days from Wellington to Balboa. She left Wellington at 5 p.m. on December 7 and arrived at the Panama' Canal on the afternoon of Christmas Day. The Rangitiki left Colon last Thursday afternoon for Southampton and London, aim" is expected to arrive at the Channel port on or about January 8. SOLD TO THE EAST The Union Co. has sold two of its best-known cargo steamers, the Kaiapoi and Kaitangata, to Eastern buyers, a British company at Hongkong, who will take delivery of both vessels at Wellington about the end of January. The Kaiapoi and Kaitangata are practically sister ships. They were built by Messrs. Osborne, Graham and Co., Sunderland; the Kaiapoi in 1906, and the Kaitangata in 1907. The former's engines were manufactured by the N.E. Marine. Engineering Co., Sunderland, and the hitter's by Messrs. G. Clark Ltd., Sunderland. The Kaiapoi's principal dimensions are 3003 tons gross, 1247 tons net; length, 279.2 ft,; beam,- 40.1 ft.; depth, 18.1 ft. The Kaitangata's are •' 2005 tons gross, 1195 tons net; length, 279.5 ft.; beam, 40.2 ft.; depth, 18.1 ft. During the last quarter of a century much of the Union Oo.'s obsolete tonnage has been sold to Eastern buyers, and the ships have taken a new lease of life in trading on the Chinese coast and in other parts of the Orient. About a year ago the Union Co. thus disposed of tbe Koromiko, Karon, oftd Kittawa. The Kaiapoi and Kaitangata are being replaced by the new up-to-date colliers Kaimiro and Karepo.
