CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNEY | THREE FINALS PLAYED By playing throughout the week-end, sufficient progress was made in the. Poverty Bay and East Coast Lawn Tennis Association's annual tournament to expect that it would be brought to a close this afternoon. Already three finals have been decided, including one championship, the boys' singles, in which H. F. Smyth defeated K. J. Sheen after going the full three sets. The final of the men's handicap singles between G. Reeves and P, R. \\ atson, with the latter giving away 25 points, created some excitement when the back-marker caught Reeves at3l, but was unable to get any further, Reeves winning with three points to spare. The final of the ladies' handicap singles also provided a close finish, Miss .). Hopkinson making up the difference of 20 points in the handicaps comparatively early in the contest, but after that her progress was slower, having only two points to spare at the finish. Most of the other sections were taken to ,tho semi-final stages, some of these games being decided, and it was expected that the finals would be played this afternoon.
